Barenbrug Holland helping at childs petting zoo ‘de Goffert’ in Nijmegen

On October 2, 2025, nine Barenbrug colleagues volunteered at De Goffert Petting Zoo in Nijmegen. Together they worked on replacing an old fence for the chicken coop. A rewarding day of teamwork and community impact!

About ‘de Goffert’

This Child’s petting zoo has a size of 3 ha and lies in the middle of the city Nijmegen in a green surrounding. It houses animals such as pigs, ponies, cows, rabbits and many more. The access to the petting zoo is free of charge, for 7 days a week. The petting zoo depends on volunteers, but there is also a rental agreement with healthcare organization ‘de Driestroom’. A group of 20 people with a distance to the labor market takes care of the animals. They also work in the kitchen, garden and other additional activities.

The Project

On a bright autumn day nine enthusiastic colleagues from Barenbrug rolled up their sleeves at De Goffert Farm in Nijmegen. As part of the Helping with Hands initiative, the team worked hard to remove an old wooden wire fence and install a new one around the chicken coop.

Under the clear guidance of coordinator Nick Albers, the team got off to a flying start. In no time, everyone was busy lifting, digging, and screwing – teamwork at its finest!

The sunshine added to the cheerful atmosphere, making the day even more enjoyable.

By the end of the day, a sturdy new fence stood proudly in place, and the sense of accomplishment was unmistakable. Smiling faces, a great result, and a meaningful contribution to a valuable local initiative – a successful day to be proud of!
